Exactly a year ago.. I was then spending most of my vacation amidst the serene seclusion of a province world renowned for its majestic Mt. Mayon.. But that's a different story.. Exactly a year ago, 17th of April '08, Mama Minang, who happens to be a sibling of my dad, had been challenged by her health and was nearly been put in a life and death situation..She then stayed in the Intensive Care Unit of the AGO Hospital in Albay for quite sometime which definitely burdened her family with such sudden expenditures.. This year, 17th of April '09.. The same dreadful mishap occurred.. And this time, Papa Peng, who happens to be the sibling preceeded by my dad, had been the victim of his own fate.. Indeed, everything happened abruptly.. SECONDS ago.. He was well and all.. There was not even a sign of fatigue nor acute chest pains not even difficulties in his breathing.. SECONDS ago.. He was still in his wheelchair asking his son-in-law to make him coffee instead of juice.. SECONDS ago.. He was still warm.. SECONDS ago.. He still has his heartbeat.. NOW.. He's stiff.. Eyes still open but were not looking consciously to his family as they call him by his name and tell him not to give in but HOLD ON! NOW.. He's lifeless.. No signs of respiration and could not even produce any single pulse.. NOW.. The ambulance came..161 Marikina City Ambulatory Service.. They caught sight of my uncle who was still sitting in his wheelchair but now defunct.. they could already declare him clinically and biologically DEAD, but still they asked: 161: Kelan pa 'ho siya ganito? Auntie & Ate Chie (my cousin): Basta dalhin niyo na lang! Apparently, 161 Marikina City Ambulatory had been amidst hesitation upon seeing Papa Peng's condition.. They could have already declared him dead right there and then if only my aunt and cousin were not as aggressive and as assertive as they were.. Papa Peng was then rushed to the EMERGENCY ROOM of a hospital which was nearest to the vicinity.. And it was Marikina Valley Hospital.. MIRACULOUSLY, the doctors had managed to still REVIVE him amidst the immense lapse of time before he was finally brought to a hospital and further address moreso attend to his health concern.. MIRACULOUSLY, his pulse and heart has gone back to life.. Though not as normal as it was but at least he is now respiring with the help of an AMBO-bag and later, a RESPIRATOR when it was already gravely needed.. MIRACULOUSLY, we were still able to extend his life for us.. Though he was no longer able to communicate.. Though all he could do in response to anything we say is CRY.. It was really heartbreaking.. I, myself, could not help but cry as well for I was not used to seeing Papa Peng as helplessly ill as this.. Nor did I ever imagine him falling off into a grave condition that could take him this sudden.. This incident had drawn me into reminiscing the good old times I spent with my uncle ever since I knew I existed.. The nights when he used to bring pasalubongs (chiz curlz, chippy etc.) for me everytime he goes home from work.. (I was still in elementary then) The after-dinner-banana-sessions-in-the-lawn we usually had every night.. (elementary days..) The hot afternoons when we would usually lay down on newspapers to cool off.. (elementary days..) The hilarious jokes he would usually crack that would really burst the hell out of me.. And a lot more I could not really get to enumerate.. Sa lahat lahat ng nangyayari ngayon.. Hindi pa rin ako lubos na makapaniwala na ganito na ang sinapit niya.. Wala akong ibang maibulalas kundi: Napakabuti niya! Napakasarap niyang kasama! Bakit sa kanya pa nangyayari toh?! Later tonight, Papa Peng was already transferred to VETERANS MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER (VMMC).. And in no time, I'd prepare to visit him.. Awww gaaawd.. Let's pray for him..
